Community Engagement Assistant
Action for Neighbourhood Change (ANC) Project – Taylor Massey

Job Summary: Funded through the United Way, the Action for Neighbourhood Change Project (ANC) is a community development initiative to engage, organize, and build the capacity of residents in Taylor Massey.

Duties: Full duties are set out in the job description. Anyone interested in applying for this position is encouraged to obtain a copy from the HR Manager. A brief summary follows:

  1. Facilitate and assist in the development of ANC engagement strategies, priorities and action plans.
  2. Assist in organizing and facilitating resident meetings, workshops, focus groups, information sessions, open houses, forums and community events.
  3. Identify and assist in supporting the capacity building needs of residents.
  4. Provide mentoring and coaching support for residents and volunteers.
  5. Assist in the development and implementation of neighbourhood outreach strategies.
  6. Conduct research on community needs and issues.
  7. Prepare and submit schedules, timesheets, statistics, project and finance reports, and other reports required by the project in a timely manner.
  8. Attend trainings, activities and meetings organized by Neighbourhood Link and/or the United Way.
  9. Represent and speak on behalf of ANC and/or Neighbourhood Link at meetings.
  10. Other duties and responsibilities, as needed.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Diploma or equivalent in social policy, community development and/or health promotion, or a combination of academic preparation and experience.
  • At least two years experience in community development and outreach work.
  • Knowledge of a second language (Bengali, Tamil, Hindi or Punjabi.) preferred.
  • Familiarity with the social, economic and cultural conditions and local priorities of Taylor Massey.
  • Experience in working with local service providers, community groups and networks.
  • Strong coordination and time management skills, with the ability to multi-task.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, facilitation and report writing skills.
  • The ability to relate to diverse groups and individuals and to motivate people.
  • Commitment to working with low-income and multi-racial/multi-lingual communities and teams.
  • Flexibility and responsiveness to community needs, including ability to work flexible hours.

Scheduled hours of work are 37.5 per week and will include evenings and weekends.
Contract end date: September 30, 2012
Salary: $38,570. Grid Level 5, Step 1, prorated to the hours of work.
